People on the internet use blatant trolling and flaming so easily, but I can tell you that they would never do it in actual person given the chance. It's easy to act badass on the internet. They're pathetic and still talking about it pages later.
Hold your head high and be proud of your case; most of these morons treat their gadgets/etc like they're toys with no regard.

Glad to hear, I am still very proud of my purchase, I've always respected Pelican, Even though I've decided to use it for a camera body+lens, I still think it was a great buy and still don't believe I deserved any of the "poking fun at/making fun of" comments.
But it ain't the end of the world, It's just another day at MacRumors.

Looks like NVIDIA is going to be out of the picture for a while. After the Mac Mini, MacBook and MacBook Air are updated to Sandy Bridge/Ivy Bridge it will be all Intel/AMD graphics across the board. Apple should really think about implementing hardware acceleration for AMD/ATI cards and Intel's IGP. Hopefully it will be there in Lion.

Ok - I've been into Macs for a couple years now, so I don't have the history with the company of many of you do.
That said, it seems to me that with these ads or banners for Leopard, that it is closer to being released than we all might think. Has Apple promoted a product this way -- bashing M$ -- with out releasing the product soon after?
To me it just seems like real strong words to use if Leopard wont be out for a while, esp. if it will only be released around the time Vista will be next year.
Anyone know what I mean, or feel the same way?

You are alone on this one - the end of the G5 iMac has already happened, in fact it happened a long time ago when Apple introduced the first Intel iMacs. Hate to break it to ya, but G5 iMacs haven't been around for a long time, nor does a 24" G5 iMac even exist. :p :cool:
As for this new incarnation of the Intel iMac though, it totally depends on Apple's strategy. If they want to leave it as a desktop computer, yeah, it probably doesn't make sense to get much bigger. However, if they want to eventually incorporate a TV tuner and make it even more media-centric, and have it evolve into something else, then this may just be the beginning, not the end. :cool:

Movies will have a limited number of plays, rather than a limited number of time to view. Or, alternately, you will pay-per-view (literally).I rarely watch a movie exactly once straight through from start to finish. I might back up to see a scene again, skip the boring parts where there are no car chases or spy gadgets, pause to answer the phone and then back up because I missed a few seconds, stop because it's been 15 minutes and I feel the need to visit MacRumors and then start again the next day because I forgot I hadn't finished the movie, watch the opening scenes again after the final credits because it's fun after you know secrets you learn later in the movie, and so on.

I like that concept... not owning a microwave. Encourages you to eat fresh and reheat things the proper way. :)
Honestly, it was more or less just how it's worked out. I moved and have no microwave any longer. I could buy one but I'm looking to see how long I can hold out. So far I did miss it when I needed to reheat turkey dinner, but 20 minutes tops to preheat and heat up leftovers in a pan didn't actually feel like I wasted any time. Plus, things seem to heat up more evenly.
When my family came they were shocked to see I had no microwave. They were a bit confused but had to figure out what to do just like I have. We'll see how quickly I fold. So far it's been 2 months.
I have a true steamer for veggies, a stove for everything else, and now a popcorn popper for those movie nights. I have a glass stovetop so making a pot of popcorn is not only bad for my stove, but not easy.
Yeah, but I had to return it as it was defective. The seat wasn't level- it slanted to the left. I think that once I put it together, the hardware warped the seat. Initially I exchanged it, but the same thing happened with the replacement. I returned that for a refund, and have been on the hunt for a new chair ever since. I think this one is a winner.
Is that popcorn machine an air-popper, or do you need to use oil?

The next goal will be production refinements like 45 nm production for greater energy efficiency.
Software developers will need to re-train or hire new software engineers who know how to take advantage of multi-core architecture.
The big question for those who must have the newest, most powerful system will be how much RAM they'll need to take advantage of the new architecture.
There are quite a few audio/video production professionals wondering how all this
will help to improve their workflow capabilties.

I've seen 50� C from Conroe under full load. That's a lot lower then the 75� C on my iMac G5. CPU temp is a result of how efficient the heat dissipation is relative to the heat generated by the CPU... so without knowing how the heat dissipation capabilities varied between the two systems you cannot make much of a judgement on the CPU itself. (you would need the same case, same cooling system, same work load, etc. to make such a comparison)
The first generation iMac G5 had worse heat dissipating capabilities then later revisions of the iMac G5.
Should also note that the temp sensors are also potentially measuring at different points along the thermal chain (not looked into that myself).

Eh, people always have weird unusual expectations from the keynotes. They wouldn't be happy if Apple invented personal teleportation devices because first, it isn't a mac and everyone knows that Apple lost their soul when they stopped making just computers, and second it doesn't let you travel through time so you can't pretend to be Dr. Who.

Mac Pro's have big power supplies but thats mainly for the CPU and Ram, adding a 6970 would be pushing its limits, especially for gaming.
Getting a Mac Pro for gaming is such a waste of cash. The only real benefit of the Mac Pro is the dual CPU nature. However, games now a days are not CPU bounded, but rather GPU bounded. Another nail on the coffin for Mac Pro gaming.

Many of the people on this thread are too new to remember the Performa fiascos of the early 90's. More than anything, Steve simplified the computer product line into 4 distinct quadrants. The only aberration to this is the Mac Mini.
Many of the people who bring up the Performa era are failing to remember that there were typically twenty or more Mac models at any given time. 20 is too many. 4 is too few. Many of us would be much happier if Apple offered 6-8 models (specifically, the xMac).

Apple don't want to be left out of this online movie thing. They tried to convince the studios, but they couldnt, so I think they have no choice but to make it a rental service before it's too late
